Hi, I’m Bree and I’m a perfectionist.

I’m a thirty-something that has lived most of my life under the impression that I needed to work harder, love more, and live less.  If that sounds like a sad existence to you, it was.  But I want to tell you how that all changed.

I don’t remember a time that I didn’t believe in God, but I do remember a time that I believed that I had to work harder to earn His love…and a time that I didn’t understand His grace.

Growing up, my beliefs were centered around the idea that the more I did with the church and for the church was what would grant me entrance to heaven.  So I worked harder, loved people (from a distance) and lived a life that was much less satisfying than what God designed for me.  I put on a front, allowing others to only see the shiny surface of my own doings, but never allowing the ache of something more to ever be known.  And I certainly never had a clue that I had it all wrong.

Until one Sunday at my current church, I heard the words from one of the pastors during a prayer following his sermon.

“Jesus, we thank you for coming to earth to die the death that we deserve.  We know that it is only by your grace that we are saved.  It is not what we do, but what you have done for us…”

It is not what we do, but what Jesus has done for us.  Mind officially blown!  In one sentence, my entire perspective of life was changed.  It’s not me, but HIM!

Perfect vs. Purpose

Perfection is not something that God desires for us.  This is the lie of the enemy.  Perfection is only something that is embodied through Jesus, who is God in human form.  Only HE can live to to those standards, because He created those standards.

Purpose, however is something that God designed us for.  He says to you and me…

YOU have a gift, one given by the Creator of the heavens and the earth. YOU have a purpose that ONLY YOU can fulfill, provided by the Master of all the universe. YOU have great potential because the power that raised Christ from the dead lives inside of YOU!

But there’s a catch.  We live inside human flesh and sometimes our humanness gets the best of us.  We fear that we’re not good enough or that we’ll fail, so we don’t even try.  We give up before we even make an attempt at the life that God designed for us.

So what can we do to starting living a life of purpose?

This spring, I will be leading a FREE book study that will focus on surrendering that fear that grips us.  We’ll also learn together how we can take that first step away from that fear and into the life that has been waiting for us; a life of purpose and great meaning!  I’d love for you to join me!

It’s hard to know if participating in a book study is the right decision if you’re unsure what the book holds, so I wanted to share with you a video that comes from Lara Casey, the author of Make it Happen – the book we’ll be focusing on for the Spring 2015 study.

Can’t see the video?  View it here.

If this video speaks to you, I’d love for you to join me in making the
choice of purpose over perfection.  The study launches April 19th!
