Mouth-watering deliciousness! ย (Did I just make up a word? Shrugs…it works!) Sticking to my diet on The Daniel Plan has gone fairly well, but when I go to and from work everyday I have to pass a Burger King and McDonald’s and the cravings for a juicy burger kick in. ย

No worries, I haven’t cheated! ย As for those cravings,ย I have tastier (and healthier!) alternative to sink my teeth into…stuffed turkey burgers!

Is your mouth watering now? ย I know I’m getting rather peckish (British slang for hungry)! ย So are you wondering how I’m possibly able to pass up a Whopper or a Big Mac when the smells of grilled beef lingers in the air? ย Easy – I make my own version myself; where I don’t have to worry as much about the calories or what one sandwich is doing to the inside of my arteries!

Easy Stuffed Turkey Burger Recipe thatย
the whole family will enjoy! [ Tweet this ]

I came about this recipe out of a nagging hunger and the sheer luck of what was leftover in the fridge after play rehearsal one night this week. ย

There’s usually onions and mushrooms diced up and stored in the fridge, waiting for the next recipe, so I grabbed those. ย I grabbed the garlic powder, pepper grinder and a pack of ground turkey and I was all set! ย

Of course you can stuff your turkey burgers with anything, but my twist on this recipe is that all of the ingredients that are included areย found in the “good foods” list for The Daniel Plan. ย If you can find organic – all the better!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of Ground Turkey
  • 1/2 White Onion, diced
  • 6-8 Button Mushrooms, diced
  • 1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • Ground Black Pepper (to taste)
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Unsweetened Greek Yogurt
  • Whole Wheat Burger Buns (optional)

Tools

  • Skillet
  • Cutting Board
  • Paring Knife

Directions

  1. Dice 1/2 of a white onion into small, bite size pieces.
  2. Dice 6-8 button mushrooms (more or less depending upon the size) into bite size pieces.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil in a skillet
  4. Mix the onions and mushrooms into the ground turkey by hand.
  5. Add the garlic powder and ground black pepper to taste and mix by hand.
  6. Form the mixture into patties and carefully place in the warm pan.
  7. Pan fry the patties on each side until brown and cooked throughout.
  8. Assemble your burger (with a bun or plain) using the lettuce and tomato slices.
  9. Use Unsweetened Greek Yogurt in the place of mayo for a tangy alternative.
  10. Enjoy!
