A Best Yes Is Seen By Those Who Choose To Seeย / Ch. 14 – Pages 168 to 178

[divider type=”dotted” color=”gray”]I grew up United Methodist. ย In the old brick building with enormous stained glass window, my family attended the traditional service each week following Sunday school. ย Our place was in the third row back on the right, and I sat sandwiched between my mom and my grandma as we listened to the readings and the preacher’s sermon from the pulpit.
My faith was only a tender shoot during my time at Warwood UMC. Though I was involved in many aspects of the church, I did not gain any earth-shattering theological revelations. ย But my time spent drawing pictures on my bulletin and braiding the ribbon bookmarks of the hymnals, as I listened to the words of the old hymns or the sermon preached from the pulpit, I was developing my moral compass without knowing it. ย Often the words of those old hymns come to mind when I come face to face with God’s truth.
“Open my eyes that I may see, glimpses of truth, Thou hast for me; place in my hands the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free. ย Silently now I wait for Thee, ready, my God, Thy will to see. ย Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!” – UM Hymnal, No. 454
As of late my life seems to be functioning at warp speed. ย I mean it! ย I feel like it’s flying past me like the blurred lights from Star Wars. ย I desperately want to stop time and be given the chance to longingly look over each moment and learn something from it, but it’s slipping quickly through my fingers, that I don’t have the ability to grasp it.
Does your life ever seem to movingย at such a quick tempo that it’s a wonder you’re able to keep up at all?
In these moments it is easy to be overcome with the desire to smash our eyes shut to the outside world, to make excuses for not spending quality time with God, in giving into easy choices rather than what would be a BEST YES decision, and your entire attitude can be easily corrupt by the stress and chaos. ย Worse yet, it is easy to overlook the solution God is providing forย the situation.

By being present and keeping our eyes open, paying attention in eachย moment, even asย the world seems to be aimlessly spinning around on its axis, allows us to find God’s truth in order to clear out the lies. ย The lies that tell us ofย our lack of worth, about our inabilities and about the insignificance in the decisions we make each day.
Being present in the moment allows our minds to focus on what God wants us to see. ย The beauty of our brokenness, the great value each of us hold in the unique gifts He has given us, and most importantly, how He wants to use us in the midst of all the chaos. ย Seeking and holding onto this truth allows us to be available to lend only what we can offer to those around us and the opportunity toย be able to set an example for others.

It’s time to start living in the moment, on purpose and for God!
