During Thursday night’s Deep Dive Discussion on During Thursday night’s Deep Dive Discussion on chapters 2 and 3 of Hebrews, we spent some time considering the impact of doubt on one’s faith, if it is healthy... or Biblical. If you’ve been a Christian for more than a day, you’ll know that life can get confusing, emotions get loud, and decisions feel overwhelming, even if you’ve accepted Jesus as your Savior. But you must remember the words of Scripture can be the balm to your doubting heart and mind. Such as Psalm 119:105 that says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”. It is a reminder that even though the way might be dark, 𝙂𝙤𝙙 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙤, 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪! You’re far from being alone— ʙɪʙʟɪᴄᴀʟ ᴇxᴀᴍᴘʟᴇꜱ ᴏꜰ ꜰᴀɪᴛʜ ᴛʜʀᴏᴜɢʜ ᴅᴏᴜʙᴛ: ▪️ David cried out in confusion, fear, and despair - 𝘚𝘦𝘦 𝘗𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘮 13, 42, 77 ▪️ Job questioned God’s justice in his suffering, yet God called him blameless - 𝘚𝘦𝘦 𝘑𝘰𝘣 1:8, 𝘑𝘰𝘣 42:7 ▪️ Thomas doubted the resurrection until he saw Jesus for himself - 𝘚𝘦𝘦 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯 20:24–29 ▪️ John the Baptist asked, “Are you the one?” from prison, even after declaring Jesus was the Lamb of God - 𝘚𝘦𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘸 11:2–3 ▪️ Father of the demon-possessed boy cried out, “I believe; help my unbelief!” - 𝘚𝘦𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘬 9:24 None of these people were condemned for their questions—instead, they were met with God’s presence, correction, compassion, or assurance. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Just start with Scripture. This is a LONG one, but worth the read… In the This is a LONG one, but worth the read… In the fall of 2019, I excitedly said YES to God in picking back up & dusting off the ministry of hosting online studies. I looked forward to rebuilding a community of women from around the world to study alongside as we invited God to take up residence—an intentional filling— in the hole within us that we so desperately longed to fill, often with the things of this world. I was also working on healing from a significant wound I received during (of all things) my time in vocational ministry. My faith had been used as a welcome mat, so while I was excited to take on this revived ministry role, I was also seriously perplexed about how God could use me. Even though I had served in various ministries over the years, I never quite felt equipped. I found it challenging to connect with God’s Word because I didn’t know how to study it for myself or by myself. 𝗔𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘁, 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻. Maybe you can relate. Many of us, church-going Christians, were never taught how to read the Bible or how to get to know the heart of God through His Word. I find no coincidence, but only God, that at the beginning of the shut-down in 2020 I came across Kristi McLelland’s study, Jesus & Women. It was exactly what I needed at that time, even if it effectively wrecked my faith—for the better, may I add. Through Kristi’s reminders that God intends to raise his daughters up out of shame and into a place of honor, I found new confidence and excitement in spending time in His Word, which has only grown over the last 5 years. I’m grateful to have found the tools to learn how to study and get to know God better through reading the Bible 𝙛𝙤𝙧 myself and 𝙗𝙮 myself. 𝗜 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱. I allow God Himself to prepare the table before me, so I can feast on His Word. As I began to learn more about the character of Je As I began to learn more about the character of Jesus through studying His context markers, the time in history, geography, as well as the cultural, political, and religious influences of His life, I began to better understand His teachings. And much to my surprise, I found reading the Bible exciting and full of glimpses of the heart of God. I had spent my years in youth group, church camp, college, and even young adult Bible study trying to see where I fit into God’s story, and what I could learn about myself through Scripture. ᴍʏᴛʜ: The Bible was written to me. ᴛʀᴜ ᴍʏᴛʜ: The Bible was written to me. ᴛʀᴜᴛʜ: You’re not the first reader—and that’s actually really good news. It was written 𝘧𝘰𝘳 us — but not 𝘵𝘰 us. Every book in Scripture had a real audience, in a real time, with real struggles. Context honors the original meaning before we apply it to our lives today. Even Jesus’ followers needed to have the Scriptures interpreted for them on the Road to Emmaus. Read Luke 24:27. Jesus shows that Scripture has layers of meaning—what it meant 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯, and how it reveals 𝘏𝘪𝘮 now. But He didn’t skip context, as He interpreted the Scriptures, respecting their original intent and then showing their fulfillment. 𝗕𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗽: Always ask, “What did this mean to them?” BEFORE asking, “What does it mean to me?” What’s one Bible verse you’ve always read through a “me-first” lens?
